Our Journey

Where it all began

We have both been passionate about fitness for many years,
but our rucking journey started on a hike up Pan Y Fan from the Storey Arms car
park.

On our way up we passed a few groups Royal Marines who were
loaded up with a lot of kit and weapons. It was a hot day, so it was a tough
climb for them up and down undulating as the path takes you towards the summit
of Corn Du. We were both intrigued by what they were doing and also the
adventurous side of both of us wondered what it would be like to climb the
mountain carrying the 55kg packs they were.

As we had regularly gone out hiking but wanted to increase the
challenge without taking up a lot more time, we decided to give what we now
know to be Rucking, a go.

We decided to try climbing a local landmark near us called Jacobs
Ladder to see how we got on. I started out with 15kgs, and Shelly went with 10.
We got to the top and thoroughly enjoyed the extra challenge, but both felt we
could push ourselves harder next time.

And so our Rucking journey began, where we now go out every Saturday
with 20 & 30 kg packs on exploring the wonders of the Peak District and sometimes
farther afield.
