- 11.05km route
- Rucking with 20kg's
- Difficult level: Intermediate, the path was very good for a lot of the route, but there were some quite technical sections. this would be a great route for someone who has been rucking for a few months and would like to have a bit more of a challenge as the difficult terrain will help test your core/stability muscles a bit further. the elevation was minimal, but did have couple of steepish sections to test your strength as well.
We started this route in the Longshaw Estate carpark as it has easy access and plenty of space. The path from the carpark is pretty good and not very challenging so will suit people trying rucking for the 1st time.
We followed the path underneath of Burbage rocks and up to Upper Burbage where we crossed Burbage brook.
We then followed the path along towards Higger tor were the path go a bit more challenging with large boulders that you needed to navigate through along the path. There was plenty of room to get through so you didn't need to climb over them, but with the regular change in direction to find your way through it took a little more out of you than just walking a long a path.
After we descended form Higger Tor, the route took us to past Over Owler edge and down to Surprise View which is a popular tourist viewing spot looking down the valley, but please be careful crossing the road as it is a quick road and often busy.
The path then took us down to meet back up with Burbage Brook where we came across a herd of friendly cows grazing next to the path.
We then followed the brook upstream along the path which took us back to the car. This was an area we had driven through many times on our way further out into the Peak District but this was the 1st time we had decided to explore, and it didn't disappoint. We will certainly be back to explore further.
My watch had a "moment" after about 7km so I had to restart it so the route is in 2 parts.
