Hope 25th January 2025

  • 9.62km route
  • Rucking with 20kg

This ruck didn't play out the way we had planned. We initially drove to Edale as we planned to climb Kinder Scout, but when we got to the car park at Edale at 8:30am it was like a busy town centre on a Saturday afternoon. we like to peace and tranquillity of being out in the countryside so this didn't really spark our enthusiasm for the ruck. We also forgot to take our debit card with us so couldn't pay for parking either which was probably a good thing.

We ended up driving to the nearby village of Hope and managed to find some street parking so we started our route from there.

We found a route that that took us up to Back Tor and along the ridge line towards Mam Tor. It was a very windy day which made it feel very chilly and there was a spattering of snow on the ground. It was also quite a busy route with a lot of other walker out for the morning but thankfully not too busy to spoil the quite.

The views from the summit were really spectacular especially looking in to the valley on the other side of the summit looking back out towards Edale away from Hope.

We were able to find a nice peaceful spot for breakfast and a much needed coffee on the decent which gave us some beautiful views across the valley below. Then we headed back down the valley towards Hope where you could look back at the magnificent slopes of Mam Tor in the distance.

All in all, it was a lovely morning out, and we managed to make the best of what started out as a bit of a disaster.
